Are incidents of elder sexual abuse in nursing homes frequent?

It's unclear just how widespread sexual abuse of nursing home residents really is, because, oftentimes, these incidents go unreported. However, the most recent statistics show that between October 1, 1995, and September 30, 1996, 546 complaints of sexual abuse were filed.
