Maryland Considers Cameras in Nursing Homes

February 14, 2003

For the 4th time, the state of Maryland is considering “Vera’s Law”. The proposed bill will allow a patient’s family to have a monitor installed in their loved one’s room. The installation would be at the expense of the family. Additionally, there must be written consent by the patient’s roommate that permits monitoring so that no privacy laws are violated. A notice must also be posted on the patient’s door that specifies that electronic monitoring is in use.

Currently, the only state that has passed a similar bill is Texas.
